Margaret ToddMargaret Todd (1858-1945) married Richard Hutchinson and they had five children. They were both servants at Methven Castle.
On 1891 and 1901 census, she is living in Dumfriesshire with her children but not with her husband.

In 1891, she is described as a butler’s wife, but Richard is not in household. He is not found on either 1891 or 1901 census records.

That was because he went to America about 1884 and eventually lived in New York where he started up an employment agency.

In 1897, he remarried to a Prudence Edouard with whom he had twins Dorothy and Bruce in 1904.

Margaret, known as Maggie, later emigrated to South Africa and lived her her son, John, known as Jock. She corresponded with her family in Scotland, Australia and America and also her other sons, Robert and James,  in Canada.

Mr. Hutchinson was the mother of the late Mr. John Hutchinson who some years ago was the proprietor of the old Masonic Hotel. she came from Scotland many years ago. For the past 5 years she has been living with her grand-daughter Mrs. de la Rey Venter, at Griusrand. Granny Hutchinson, as she was affectionately known to a large circle of friends, was a dear old lady and was loved and esteemed by all who knew her. The funeral conducted by the Rev. T.
