Letter from Elizabeth Dobbs (nee Aldridge) to her adopted son Alex Dobbs/Coker several weeks before she passed away.

24/3/52 Kabra Q.G.R

Dear Alex,

Received your welcome letter on Saturday & pleased to hear you were all well. We are well here, it has been quite a change the last couple of days. Last night it was quite cold here. I have not seen Uncle Bert (presumably her brother Bert Aldridge) since I got your letter. Yes Ted (Unclear which Ted this is. It could be her son-in-law Ted Goodwin. It could also be her brother Ted Aldridge) will have a spell alright – six weeks last Thursday since it happened. It will do him good a spell though. I am sending a slip & a letter from the Bank re the 12-9-0 cheque I sent in for you when the slip came I wrote the manager about it & this is his answer. My day for the Doctor is April 9th so it is right. I did not get any Bank slips in your letter. Yes we did have nice rain here also. Auntie (Lizzie’s sister, Emma, who was Alex’s birth mother*), Edna and all send their love to you. I cannot find many cream returns at all. I think you got all the others cannot find one for December here anywhere. I will now close with love & best wishes to you all
From Your Loving Mother
Elizabeth Dobbs
(*NOTE to reader: Elizabeth Dobbs adopted her sister Emma’s son Alex when he was a baby. Emma gave birth to twin boys and took ill. Alex’s twin died)
