A woman to whom we owe a great deal

Elizabeth AldridgeElizabeth Aldridge (1871-1952) married Charles Dobbs and they had the one child, Elizabeth Helen, known as Nellie. They also adopted Elizabeth’s nephew, John Alexis Dobbs Coker, son of Henry Coker and Emma Aldridge.

It was noted in her obituary that “During the war, Mrs Dobbs was an indefatigable knitter for the Comforts Fund and she made many pairs of socks”.

Despite not being my grandfather’s natural mother, without her determination, he may have never survived to adulthood.
