Notes: Martin P. Anderson, 90, of S. Vineland, NJ passed away on October 3, 2014. Mr. Anderson was born on April 29, 1924, and raised in Vineland where he remained a lifelong city resident. He was the son of the late Meredith (Penny) and James Anderson and the grandfather of the late Casey Anderson Feldman. Mr. Anderson was a 1942 graduate of Vineland High School. After graduation, he chose to serve his country in WWII. He enlisted in the Army Airborne Infantry and served in the 326th Glider Infantry. Martin served in Europe attaining the rank of T-5. His unit was awarded 2 battle stars. After his military service, Martin continued working on his father's poultry farm, marrying Winifred (Anna) Hildebrand on March 20, 1948. When the poultry business began failing, Mr. Anderson turned to truck driving to make a living for his wife and 3 daughters. He worked for Riggins Oil Company, Fowser Fast Freight, Kowalski's Express and Motor Cargo, retiring at the age of 59. Martin was a proud member of the Teamsters Union Local #676 and the National V.F.W. A product of the depression and his Scottish upbringing, Martin believed in working hard, saving money, not complaining and never hiring anyone for something that he could do himself. Talented in many ways, he built his own house, also doing all of the plumbing and electrical work. He was a great mechanic, able to fix anything with a motor - from cars, lawnmowers, tractors, and weed whackers to washing machines, as well as hairdryers, radios, etc. Martin enjoyed reading and loved science, math, history and current affairs, often sending sometimes lengthy letters to his elected officials, voicing his opinion on topics that concerned him. He was a great outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, crabbing, camping and RVing. Martin enjoyed his retirement traveling with his wife and wintering in Florida in their 5th wheeler for 25 yrs. A devoted father, he also instilled his values in his daughters, including the necessity of a good education so that they would not have to labor the 16 hour days that he often worked, 6 days a week. Vacations, holidays and leisure time were spent with the family, always with a camera in hand so that he could record and later watch the moments on film. He was fondly referred to as "Pop Pop" by his 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Martin was a member of the South Vineland United Methodist Church for over 60 years where he enjoyed volunteering and serving the church family. Martin married Winifred Anna HILDERBRAND on 22 Mar 1948 in New Jersey, USA. Winifred was born on 13 Jan 1922 in Fresno, Coshocton County, Ohio, USA; died on 28 Jul 2017 in South Vineland, Cumberland County, New Jersey, USA; was buried in 2017 in Pittsgrove, Salem County, New Jersey, USA.
