    Notes from John Stanhope: Alexander Silver "of Balnagubs", born about 1709. He made his fortune growing tea in Jamaica. He married Rebecca Parsons on 14 February 1740 at Saint Michael's Church, Barbados, but she seems to have died childless. "Mr Silver, a native of this district, made a purchase of the estate of Netherley, on his return from the West Indies" , some time before 1760. he married Anna Burnet on 23 October 1768 at Dyce, Aberdeen shire, the mother of (1) H George, baptized 29 March 1770 in Fetteresso, (2) Ann, baptized in Fetteresso on 24 April 1771, died 17 August 17846 (grave 123 p.137) (3) Adam baptized 26 January 1772 (4) Christian baptized 30 May 1774. Alexander died in Aberdeen on 30 December 1791 , and was buried in Fetteresso cemetery. The Netherley estate was 1500 acres in area. Mrs Silver "widow of Alexander Silver, esquire of Balnagubs" died in Aberdeen 15 September 1812 "in her 75th year" (therefore born about 1737) .

Having acquired a moderate fortune abroad, he purchased the residence of his Ancestors, the place of his birth, in this parish, and for many years after he lived to enjoy it, beloved, esteemed & respected as a husband, father, friend & neighbour. He d.30 Dec.1791 aged 82. Also his dau. ANN d.14 Aug.1784 in 14th year."

    Update Oct 2013: Silver descendant Tim Baines re-examined the stone and confirmed Alexander's mother Agnes is also interred there; died 8 Feb 1721 aged 35.

    from 1761 Last Will & Testament of William SILVERPage 1Inventory of the goods, gear, debts and others underwriten which pertained and were vesting and owing to the deceased William Silver, Shipmaster in Aberdeen the time of his death who died in the month of [ blank ] _______ [ blank ] years Given up by Alexander Silver of Balnagubs, Brother german and Exer dative decerned to the said defunct conform to a decree of Exery [executory] pronounced the searent upon the second day of December last under protestation to and as afterwards comes to his knowledge and that he have retention in his own hand all of the inventory under written of the expenses of this present confirmation and all other heritable and privileges, debts due by law and generally of all sums of money, charges and expenses which the said Exer has debursed or shall deburse in reference to or going about the said office of exery in any manner of way.In the first under the protestation above written, the said Exer gives up grants and confesses, that the said deceased William Silver had pertaining resting and owing to him the time of his decease foresaid some old cloaths [clothes] furniture and other effects. All inventory and approval by James Sangster merchant in Aberdeen and William Johnston, Taylor there - amounting in all to twenty eight pounds nine shillings and one penny sterlin [Sterling]. Conform to the inventory and appreciation there of herewith produced. Signed by the said James Sangster and William Johnston. Then the said defunct delivered to Mrs Mearns now spouse to John Fraser merchant in Aberdeen the sum of five pounds five shillings sterlin [Sterling] to be given to the said Alexr [Alexander] Silver and which sum he has received accordingly.Page 2At Aberdeen the seventeenth day of April in the year one thousand seven hundred and sixty one in presence of Mr Richard Gordon of Craigmile Commr Depute of Aberdeen.The Comissary foresaid confirms the said Alexander Silver Exer dative quo nearest in kin to the said deceased William Silver his brother confirm to the decree of Exery above specified And received Andrew Thomson Advocate in Aberdeen confirms for the said Exer that the goods, gear, debts and others above specified shall be made forthcoming to all parties having interest therein as access of the law, and the said Exer obliges him to relieve his said cautioner of his cautionary above and of all that may follow therein. And the said Exer and cautioner hereby subject themselves to the jurisdiction of the Comissary of Aberdeen in all maters and things relative to the said Exery and that whether they continue to reside within the said Commissariat or not And in case any of them shall happen to reside without the said Commissariat then they hereby affix the Commisary Clerks Office in Aberdeen as a domicile for leaving all tokens to be given to them anant the said Exery.     Commissary Depute of the Commissariat of Kincardineshire Compeared John Falconer Writer in Stonehaven as procurator and gave in the Inventory and oath there on underwritten desiring that the same might along with a Disposition and Deed of Settlement and Codicil thereto subjoined, holograph Letter of date the first day of September and three Codicils written on paper apart, the first Codicil being date the twenty first day of September and each of the other two the twenty third day of September all in the year Eighteen hundred and Forty and all executed by the Defunct be inserted and registered in the Commissary Court Books of the Commissariat of said Shire, which desire the said Commissary, finding to be reasonable he ordained the same to be done accordingly and of which Inventory the principal being written on paper denoting a Stamp duty of Eighty Pounds Sterling the tenor follows viz, Inventory of the Personal Estate and effects of the deceased?
