    Notes:

In 1871, Violet was awarded £10 10 shillings in damages after she took action for slander against Alexander Milne.
The following report appeared in the Aberdeen Press and Journal 12 July 1871, p5.
    ACTION OF DAMAGES FOR SLANDER.
    COLLIE V. MILNE.
An action was raised in the Sheriff Court at Stonehaven, at the instance of Mrs Violet Silver or Collie, presently residing in Cameron Street, Stonehaven, widow of the late William Collie, sometime farmer, Greens of Crynoch, in the parish of Maryculter, and county of Kincardine, againse Alexander Milne, farmer, Mill on Monquich, in the parish of Feteresso, and county of Kincardine, for damages, in consequence of the Defender having, on 22nd September last, at Parkhead, in the Parish of Maryculter, in the presence and hearing of George Falconer, farm overseer, Millbank, and William Chivas, boatman, Inch of Culter, in a conversation regarding the loss, by fire, of two stacks of hay, which had been recently burned at Monquich, defamed and slandered the Pursuer, by falsely, maliciously, and calumniously stating and asserting, that the person who set fire to the hay was no other body that the Pursuer, or that it was nobody else that did it; and also by stating, the following day, in Castlegate of Aberdeen, in the presence of Mrs Agnes Thomson or Silver, residing at Thintowline, Blairs, and John Silver, her son, that he had no doubt it was Mrs Collie who kindled it.
A minute of defence was given in on 8th February last, in which the Defender stated that, on the occasions libelled he said that he "suspected the Pursuer of having set fire to the day,"-that notwitstanding, he offered £3 in the name of damages-that the Pursuer being in poor circumstances, the reparation offered was ample-and that, in these circumstances, the action was unjustifiable and oppressive.
After various steps of procedure, proof was led on 31st May last, and the case taken to avizandum.
The Sheriff-Substitute has now issued the following interluctor:-
STONEHAVEN, 28th June 1871.-Having considered the cause, finds that the Defender slandered the Pursuer, as set forth in the two first heads of the libel, and the Defender is therefore liable in damages: Assesses the damages at Ten Pounds ten shillings sterling, and decerns against the Defender for that sum. Signed J. Dove Wilson.
    Agent for the Pursuer-Mr G.S.Caird.
    Agend for the Defender-Mr R.Falconer.
