    Notes:

[Auriol Garsden nee Cross, daughter May Cross nee Nunn, Aunty Dolly]
Mum recalls her grandma and granddad Nunn living in Station Rd, Booval near the railway station. Mum, Auriol, was born in this vicinity in 1917 and started school at Silkstone SS - her sister Ruby was born in 1922 while still living in Booval. She remembers visiting her grandparents, sitting on a stool with her grandfather who played with her. She remembers a furry red and white ball and him making bunnies out of his handkerchief. He could make the bunnies jump.
Grandma used to put a saucer with cheese on the edge of wood stove. When cheese melted she would make very tasty sandwiches. Mum said her grandma was a little lady, very quiet but ladylike.
Mum's father, Uncle Laurie [Laurence Cross], was good provider always finding work in the depression but that meant moving to where the work was. He had jobs in Melbourne, Southport, Salisbury at abattoirs as well as butcher shops in different suburbs.
When they moved to Salisbury they lived in about 3 rented houses before her father bought a block of land and, with help of builder friend, built a house.
While living in Salisbury [she mentions Harlin St] Grandma Nunn, her Aunty Ruby & Uncle Allan Ford, and Aunty Beryl also lived there. I'm not sure from her notes if they were all in same house or not. She did not see a lot of her grandmother mentioning again her being a 'quiet lady.' She recalls her grandfather dying of pneumonia in Ipswich hospital before this. Allan Ford worked for Public Curator and eventually became head of the department, getting invited to formal functions as Ball for Queen during her first visit.
While living here at Coorparoo, they visited Grandma Nunn, living with Aunty Bella [Isabella] - she thinks at Dinmore, Nunn's paddock. Grandma was living with them, she must have been dying as mum could hear her breathing from the verandah. Only the adults were allowed in to see her. Mum was about 12 or 13 [1929ish???]
As a child and even when she started work, mum spent most holidays with her family camping on Gold Coast, mainly Burleigh or Coolangatta, Kirra area. I remember visiting Uncle Dave Nunn and Aunty May under 3rd pine tree at Tweed, where Twin Towns is now. One year they had to go home as storm with hail stones as big as cricket balls damaged their tent. I think after that they got a caravan.
