- Mary Reid (or Munro) proves difficult to track with certainty partly because of doubts over the year in which she was born in Scotland. It could be either 1849 or 1852, but is most likely 1849.
According to the US census entries, she emigrated in either 1869 or 1870, but no Reid-Munro marriage is found in Scotland.
According to 1930 US census, she was first married aged 18 (around 1867), so it's likely that her first marriage was to Munro who either died within a decade of their wedding, or divorced her.
Mary Munro is then found in US records in 1879 when she married Stephen Forrester. And her declared age on the 1880 census is 31.
So Mary Reid (Munro), born around 1849 in Scotland, who married Stephen Forrester and later married John Silver, and whose maiden name was Reid according to her death certficate, seems to have been married three times.
It's also intriguing that a George Monro was the informant on her death certificate which names her parents. As best I can ascertain, this George Monro was born Scotland around 1869. On 1920 census, the entry shows his father was born Scotland and mother born England, but on 1930 census, both born Scotland. That casts doubt on Mary Reid being his mother and he also didn't come to America until 1888 whereas she did 1869/1870. However, seems likely he had some family connection, possibly a cousin by marriage.
Presumably he, along with her daughter Mamie Forrester, provided information for the death cert.
On 1910 census, her name is recorded as Munro Silver which again suggests a family connection. Note that Mamie Forrester presumably is Mary's daughter with Stephen Forrester
