*Must have taken surname of mother's second husband as she was born Frances Aytoun Napier born 14 Dec 1831 in Madras, India the daughter of Lt Col Johnstone Napier
There's an entry from records provided by researcher Nancy Gibson with references to Johnstone Napier and Isabella Hardie which read thus:
Isabella Hardie (formerly Napier) of Madras and Edward Francis Elliot of Madras, 1839; Act to dissolve the marriage of Lieutenant Colonel Johnstone Napier of Madras, and his wife Isabella (nee Hardie), 1839.
That explains why Johnstone Napier's daughter Frances, used the Elliot surname when she married James Silver. When Johnstone Napier died in 1892, he left his estate to daughter Frances.
