Notes |
- A report in the Bury and Norwich Post and Suffolk Herald of 20 Dec 1859 says Nunn Hubbard of Hargrave had an accident while working on his threshing machine the result of which was that he lost fingers from his right hand as well as the top of his index finger and part of his thumb.
The report reads: A sad accident happened to Mr. Nunn Hubbard, of this place, on Thursday last. He was oiling the cogs of a horse-power threshing machine, at work upon his premises, having a glove on his hand, when by some means the fingers of the glove were caught in the cogs, and his hand was drawn in; and we are sorry to state that before the machine could be stopped the three last fingers of his right hand were completely taken off, and more than half the fore-finger and thumb. He was attended by Mr. Barker, of Barrow, who amputated the fingers and also by Mr Image, of Bury, and, according to the latest account we have heard, was likely to do well unless any bad effects upon the nervous system shoud ensue. He had just before met with two accidents whilst breaking in horses.

Mary Ann HEWITT, b. 3 May 1837, Attleborough, Norfolk, England, UK d. 4 Mar 1899, Suffolk, England, UK (Age 61 years) |
Marriage |
3 May 1864 |
Attleborough Church, Wayland, Norfolk, England, UK |
- 1864 marriage solemnized at the Parish Church in the Parish of Attleborough in the county of Norfolk. No 354, May 3rd, Nunn Hubbard, full age, bachelor, farmer, of Hargrave, son of Nunn Hubbard*, deceased and Mary Ann Hewitt, full age, spinster, of Attleborough, daught of William Hewitt, salesman.
*This is wrong information as he was the son of Francis Nunn and Emily Hubbard and always known as Nunn Hubbard. No explanation as to why this information was so written on this document. For instance, see 1851 census record that shows him as a 13-year-old in his father's household. He was the base child of Emily Hubbard and Francis Nunn acknowledged he was the child's father. Doesn't seem any doubt about his parentage.
Perhaps the real reason is that he didn't want his wife's family to know his parents weren't married.
