    Notes
    • The report below of an incident (presumably at Hargrave) seemingly involved Nathan Nunn son of George Nunn and Ann Rayment. The puzzle is the identity of Eliza Nunn because Nathan Nunn's older sister Eliza was born 1844 and was buried on 2 Jan 1848 in Hargrave aged three. So, she presumably died within hours or a couple of days before then. The best case for the identity of Eliza Nunn is Nathan's fifth cousin born Hargrave 1849, the daughter of William Nunn and Eliza Todd. The relationship is explain at this link: http://tinyurl.com/nywfbyj
This, too, would explain why no mention was made in the newspaper report of any close kinship.
It should be noted as well that Nathan Nunn's full name may have been George Nathan Nunn based on census and marriage records. No military record could be found to confirm this.

The newspaper report from Bury and Norwich Post 5 Mar 1867 reads thus:

ASSAULT.- Eliza Nunn, single woman, of Hargrave, preferred a charge of assault against George and Alfred Garrod, of Chedburgh. Defendants pleaded
not guilty. Complainant deposed: On Sunday evening, the 13th of January, I was walking with Nathan Nunn, when George Garrod insulted me, and asked
the young man to fight. He took hold of my shoulders and threw me down on a dirt heap. Alfred did not touch me. By Mr Steele: Nathan Nunn is a soldier, and was on furlough. He is gone back to his regiment. Alfred Garrod said complainant went up to strike his brother, and he only told her she would look better at home. Inspector Keeble: Alfred Garrod was convicted and imprisoned for a month, about a year ago, for an assault at Chedburgh. Ordered to pay one pound each, or in default fourteen days' imprisonment. George Garrod promised to play one pound on reaching Chedburgh, and one shilling and sixpence for the warrant of commitment in three weeks.
