    Notes
    • Given Henry Aldridge and Emily Tyler married in 1848, she may be Emily's base child but, equally, she may have been born out of wedlock to the couple as the records suggest. There is no baptism record found for Mary Ann Aldridge to Henry and Emily but there is one in 1846 in Walkern to a James and Sarah. Could it be that Henry's parents baptised the child as their own in a village a few miles from their own? See https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/ND7R-1LG
Even so, she is a puzzle to understand but some clues are found with children staying with her mother on 1871 census and 1881 census. On 1871 census there is a George Faithfull described as a grandson. George is still with his grandmother in 1881 and there is also a granddaughter Mary Ann Bishop. Working hypothesis is that Mary Ann had first child George and her first husband died. She then married and had children to Charles William Bishop from 1867 when Mary Ann Bishop was born/baptised at Welwyn. Seems to fit.

    • 1848 marriage solemnized at the Church of St John in the Parish of St John Clerkenwell, in the county of Middlesex.
No 315. December 18, Henry Aldridge of full age bachelor, carrier, of St John's Lane, son of James Aldridge, publican and Emily Tyler, of full age, spinster, of St John's Lane, dau of John Tyler, gardener. Witnesses: James Aldridge, Sarah Aldridge.
NOTE: Question as to why they married in London could be answered by the fact that by 1851 census they had a daughter aged six. Was she their natural child or did Emily bring her into the marriage?
