*No known birth for a Josephine Silver C1891 but Jane Campbell did have a baby named Mina Jardine Duthie CAMPBELL or SILVER on 25 Apr 1890 and the birth cert states Alexander Silver was NOT the father.
So, working premise is that Mina becomes Josephine Silver and is assumed as Alex's child for purposes of the census/respectability. Between 1890 and 1895, the couple seem to have reunited given the birth of Jessie in 1896.

    Notes
    • Appears from the birth of his estranged wife's daughter Mina Jardine Duthie Campbell (or Silver), they did not cohabit as husband and wife from about 1881 which suggests that were together for about 12 months only. By 1901, they are together again and had another child (Jessie) in 1896.
