Erected by JAMES SILVER in memory of his father JOHN SILVER died Monquich 16 May 1892 aged 58. His sister SARAH JESSIE SILVER died 2nd Oct 1896 aged 19 years and is interred in Echo Bank Cemetery, Edinburgh. His mother ELIZABETH LAVERTON wife of JOHN SILVER died Aberdeen on 27 Nov 1913 aged 69 years.

- There is a claim that this John Silver was acquainted with the author Robert Louis Stevenson when he spent time in Braemar and, hence, the likely source of his Treasure Island character Long John Silver. Seems to be correct given that John Silver lived at Braemar and Stevenson visited there in 1881; before Treasure Island was published.
