Janet GARDEN or SILVER - illegitimate - was born 27th December 1862 at 7am at 18 Princes Street, Aberdeen - female - daughter to Mary Silver (ms Garden) carpet shoe binder (widow) - signed Mary Silver (her x mark) - mother - G Mortimer (Assistant Registrar - witness).

In the fourth column of Entry No 47 in the Register Book of Births for the year 1863 before the name of the childs mother insert WILLIAM MAITLAND carter on the authority of a certificate in the form of Schedule (F) to the following affect:
"In an action relating to the paternity of a child named Janet Garden or SILVER - born December 27th 1862 at the instance of Mary Garden or Silver - Princes Street, Aberdeen against WILLIAM MAITLAND carter - Causewayend, Aberdeen - in the county of Aberdeenshire on the 3rd of April 1863 found that the said child was the illegitimate child of the parties concerned. (Charles Stronach - Assistant Registrar) - August 10th 1863 in Aberdeen."
