Notes |
- William J.T.Coker emigrated to Australia about 1854 and had property in Argyle Street, St Kilda, Melbourne, Victoria.
First three children born in Australia but the family returned to England in June 1858 on the ship, Avon from Melbourne
Information from a church worker of St Dunstans about an entry under Coker/Stonehewer of monies spent on a building project within half a mile of Narrow Street for seaman in 1857. Known as Albert Gardens, the building its U-shaped. There is a note in the record that the "sons took over the building''. Perhaps that's the reason William Coker and family returned to England from Australia. On the 1861 census, William J.T. Coker, ship's chandler, is running the family operation. When living in Melbourne, Australia, William may have been working as a painter/decorator.
