| 4179 | Arthur Coker's wife Mary proves to be a bit of a puzzle. However, going by available records and a bit of detective work (with gaps), it seems Mary was born Mary Trattles to William Trattles and Diana Campline or Campion in Stathies, Yorkshire, England. Mary seems to have been married to a Johnathan Sayer(s) in 1876 and arrived in Queensland in 1887 aboard the Dorunda with two children. The record reads: SAYERS Jonathan 30 Dorunda 5 May 1887 95 18484 Z1963 M1702, M1703 SAYERS Mary 28 Dorunda 5 May 1887 95 18484 Z1963 M1702, M1703 SAYERS Ann 5 Dorunda 5 May 1887 95 18484 Z1963 M1702, M1703 SAYERS William 1 Dorunda 5 May 1887 95 18484 Z1963 M1702, M1703 There are no birth records in Queensland for Sayers that match above couple, so it is assumed they had no more children. In 1892 there is a Queensland death entry for a Jonathan Sayers thus: 1892/C4219 Jonathan Sayers son of Henry Sayers Ann Pinder Tracing that Jonathan Sayers reveals a census entry in 1861 for the son of a Henry and Ann at Runswick, Yorkshire about three miles from where Mary Trattles was born. There is a birth record for William Sayers Jan-Feb-Mar 1886 in Northallerton Yorkshire North Riding, probable child of Johnathan and Mary Then, in 1926 there is a Queensland death entry for Wm Sayer thus: 1926/C3495 William Sayer* son of Jonathan Sayer Mary Trattles No marriage can be found for Johnathan and Mary but it seems probable they did and then sailed off to Australia. When Arthur Coker married Mary Sayer(s) in 1897 in Queensland, Australia, she must have been a widow based on her death record in 1938 (see below) which gives her maiden name as Trattles. Australia Death Index, 1787-1985: Name: Mary Coker Death Date: 6 Mar 1938 Death Place: Queensland Father's Name: William Trattles Mother's name: Diana Campline Registration Year: 1938 Registration Place: Queensland Registration number: 000887 Page Number: 350 *There is a 1908 Queensland marriage between a William Sayer and Phebe Phipps as well as two births. It may be same Wm Sayer. 1908/C9299 Mabel Sayer dau of William Phebe Phipps 1912/C11098 Gladys Edna dau of Sayer William Phebe Phipps No record of marriage or death in Queensland can be found for Ann Sayers | TRATTLES, Mary (I2334)

| 4185 | As a three-year-old, Alfred almost drowned. A report of the incident is found in the Aberdeen Evening Express 27 May 1879, on page 2: NARROW ESCAPE AT STONEHAVEN.-A young boy named Alfred Silver, son of Mr John Silver, grocer, Stonehaven, had a very narrow escape of drowning on Sunday afternoon. The lad was amusing himself on the bank of the mill-dam below Invercarron toll, when he lost his balance and fell into the water, which was between three and four feet deep. Messrs George Milner, Charles Forbes, and James Main went to his assistance, the last-named of whom managed to get hold of him when almost at the middle of the dam, floating away with the current face downwards.
