    Notes:

    Birth:
On baptism certificate, date of birth clearly written 29 May 1895 but death records say it was 29 May 1894. In service record there is an entry dated 8 May 1919 which says he was 25 at last birthday which puts his year of birth at 1893! This only adds to the confusion but there are no other entries in his service record that give information on his date of birth. Those entries are blank.

William J.T.Coker emigrated to Australia about 1854 and had property in Argyle Street, St Kilda, Melbourne, Victoria.
First three children born in Australia but the family returned to England in June 1858 on the ship, Avon from Melbourne
Information from a church worker of St Dunstans about an entry under Coker/Stonehewer of monies spent on a building project within half a mile of Narrow Street for seaman in 1857. Known as Albert Gardens, the building its U-shaped. There is a note in the record that the "sons took over the building''. Perhaps that's the reason William Coker and family returned to England from Australia. On the 1861 census, William J.T. Coker, ship's chandler, is running the family operation. When living in Melbourne, Australia, William may have been working as a painter/decorator.
