    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Occupation: Farm labourer
    • _FGRAVE: 182000780
    • Residence: 1861, Bridge of Dee, Aberdeen, Scotland, UK
    • Census: 1881, 8 Shawthorn Cottage, Old Machar, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, UK
    • Census: 1891, 100 Watts Square, Old Machar, Aberdeen, Scotland, UK

    Notes:

In the unofficial and official reports of his death, his age is given as 51, 53 and 56. His mother was Ann Duncan and reputed father a William Silver.
The only record found that fits shows that he was born in 1833 which means he was about 60 when he died.
To support that, on the 1872 marriage cert to Elizabeth Scorgie, his age is given as 37 and he is a widower, having previously been married in 1861 to Ann Lawrence when aged 28.
All this points to the fact that he was certainly 60 when he passed.

His parents prove almost impossible to trace apart from the birth entry. The only 1841 census entry that fits has a William Silver, aged 7, on a farm at Banchory Devinick. The household head is a farmer named Martin. Ref: Parish: Banchory Devenick; ED: 5; Page: 9; Line: 490; Year: 1841.
However, no trace yet can be found of his father William, or mother Ann who it is noted was deceased by 1861 when William jnr married to Ann Lawrence.
Yet to track William senior on any census records.

He thereafter married Elizabeth Annand but there's no record of the union in parish registers.
There are also Ancestry trees which have conflicting parentage for the Alexander Silver who married Mary Leiper which make it difficult to know which line to follow. This may take a fair bit of unravelling.
