From his military service record he received his notice to serve on 23 April at Woolwich. His home address was 3 Pinnock Terrace, Notley Street, Camberwell : his occupation Rag Sorter (actually he was self employed as a costermonger ). Arthur served in France, with the 7 British Expeditionary force as a Rifleman. Was wounded in the right shoulder and foot and returned to England 14 April 1917. Later was posted to 6 Labour Corps as a Private to 6 Reserve Battalion, and discharged 29 March 1918, cause (No longer Physically Fit for War service). From his military medical file date 27 May 1917 ." Notice to Records officer in command Winchester Garrison." In a letter from Commanding Officer 3rd Scottish General hospital, Stobhill, Glasgow. " That Rifleman A Coker be reclassified by medical board to category to B3" . This seemed to be the actual reason for his discharge. The address on his discharge paper was 13 Bowyer Street.
