ROGERS, Alan Desmond (Shorty) Of Zamia Way, Gracemere formerly of Bunerba Street, Kabra. Passed away peacefully on Friday 3rd April 2020. Aged 88 years Dearly loved Husband to Rovena. Adored Father and Father in law to Greg and Dianne, Rovena and Ray Kearney, Rodney and Lynda. Pop to Alexandria, Hayden & Kelsey, Damien & Brooke, Chloe, Kieran. Loved Brother of Iris McCarthy (dec), Stanley Rogers (dec), Jack Rogers (dec), Ron Rogers (dec), Kevin Rogers, Geoffrey Rogers and a treasured Uncle to the Rogers and Sleaford Families. A Private Celebration of Alans Life will be held at Kabra Church on Tuesday 14th April 2020 commencing at 12 noon. A private committal will take place at Gracemere Cemetery. Due to the current restrictions Funeral attendance is restricted to Family. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

After her mother passed in 2000, Rovena wrote the following:
2 Samuel 22 v2-3: The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, the God of my rock. In Him will I trust.

Leaving the room after mum's death feeling relief that she had not lingered or suffered for long.
Then a voice saying go back. I went back, I went back and thanked the Lord for our time together and taking her home.
As one of six we all had our own place in her life.
She had greetings for each of us. As she would say to me, "Here's the lady, you are an angel, I knew you would come." I would reply, "Yes, mum, what have you lost." She had this faith in me.
If she was going anywhere, "I must tell Vena."
I realized this was the first time in nearly 60 years that we had to say goodbye.
Later that day we all came home, as there was things to do and find. Here I found I was being asked what did she get you to go to the bank for? Why were they questioning her actions?
I had to leave and have time along that night. I got this message, just two words, shield and rock.
What did this mean?
I went over things. What had been said? But there was nothing.
I thought of a poem Grandma Coker used to say: Blacksmith and the anvil, and the hymn Grandma Sleaford used to sing, Rock of Ages.
Next day we met with Captain Owen and Pam to arrange the order of service for the funeral and the family were saying what they would like to be sung and not what mum would have liked, I then heard myself say "trust in the Lord always and obey."
Trust is shield; Lord, rock. Of course, mum's saying trust and obey.
Sitting in the service Owen was speaking and then he said this family is all grown up but they still think of trusting and obeying their mother.

Much loved Grandma to Hayden, Damien, Chloe, Alexandria, Kieran and Great Grandma to Imogen. Loved Sister and Sister-in-law to the Sleaford and Rogers families and Aunt to their families.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Celebration of Rovena?s life to be held in the Salvation Army Hall, Morgan and Windah Streets, Kabra on Friday, 15th December 2023 commencing at 10 am. Followed by committal at Gracemere Cemetery.

OBITUARY R. Sleaford, Sen.
Death occurred at the age of 83* of Mr Robert Arthur Sleaford, sen., a resident of Mt Morgan for the past 32 years.
He arrived in Australia with his family from Lincolnshire, England, at the age of 16 years.
His family lived in Gympie. He followed the timber industry for a number of years.
He then moved to Childers and worked for Mr Dick Hebbard making bricks.
He married at Childers Miss Rovena Elizabeth Hebbard and was then employed by Messrs Gant and Brand on the sugar fields.
In 1908 he moved to Mt Tom, Miriam Vale, and had the care of a dairy for Messrs Gant and Brand.
In 1910 he joined the Railway Department and was stationed at Rosedale, Canoona, Buneru and Mt Morgan.
He was a ganger from 1915 until he retired.
He is survived by a widow and two daughters, Mrs F. Coker (Kabra) and Mrs C. Coker (West Rockhampton) and seven sons, Robert Arthur (Mt Morgan), John Alfred (Kabra), Richard (Roma), James Ernest (Rockhampton), Theodore Claude (Mt Morgan), Arthur Cyril (Mt Morgan) and Percy Reginald (Three Springs, Western Australia). One sister, Mrs C. White, Cribb Street, Milton, Brisbane is still living.
