He served in the United States Army Air Force during WWII where he spent some time in Australia. There he met the love of his life, Lyla Nunn. They were married February 24, 1945, in Ipswich, Australia. Lester and Lyla started a family in Lower Michigan and later moved back to Niagara in 1965. He enjoyed traveling back to Australia with his family and being outdoors. Lester worked construction as a welder, retiring at the age of 65. He was also a past member of the Masonic Lodge.
