17220 | ORANGE BLOSSOMS. - DAY ROBERTS A very pretty wedding of great interest for Dinmore residents took place on Wednesday, December 23, at the Methodist Church, Dinmore. The contracting parties were Mr. E. S. Day, of Toowoomba (fourth son of Mr. and Mrs. C. Day, Brisbane) and Miss Emma Roberts, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Roberts, "Hazelwood," Dinmore. The church was crowded with guests, and spectators to witness the ceremony, the building having been beautifully decorated by girl friends of the bride. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. W.H.Greenwood, Methodist Minister. The bride who was given away by her father looked very charming in a handsome empire gown composed of silk chiffon muslin de sevonic over a very pretty underslip. The toilet* was prettily trimmed with point lace, net Gupuire and French valenciennes. The slightly trained skirt was trimmed with two rows of silk chiffon taffeta. A handsome bridal veil lent by a friend of the bride completed a very pretty costume. She also wore a handsome drop pendant set with pearls and an amethyst, and carried a handsome shower bouquet, both being gifts from the bridegroom. The bride was attended by four bridesmaids-Miss S. Roberts (sister of the bride, chief), who wore a very pretty dress of white silk muslin de sole, trimmed with pretty French valenciennes Iace, with a lovely Leghorn hat trimmed with spotted tulle and sweet peas: Miss. Laura Nunn (cousin of the bride), who was dressed in a pretty toilet* of cream voile, trimmed with lovely net guipure, her Leghorn hat being trimmed with lace net, and crowned with white sweet peas-she also wore a gold brooch, the gift of the bridegroom : the two little Misses Elsie and Ivy Roberts (sisters of the bride), who acted as pages, wore very pretty dresses comprised of Swiss muslin trimmed with embroidery of and beading threaded with pale-blue ribbon. The each wore a very pretty wreath of Lily of the Valley flowers in their hair. Each of the bridesmaids carried handsome shower bouquets, and wore respectively a handsome gold ring, and brooches, all being gifts of the bridegroom. The bridegroom was attended by Mr. D.Nunn as best man and Mr. N. G. Roberts as groomsman. Many pretty toilets* were worn by they guests. After the ceremony Mr. and Mrs Roberts entertained the bridal party at the Alliance Hall, Dinmore, in the centre of the bridal table being a handsome wedding cake. Many handsome and costly presents were provided, including a substantial cheque from the brides father. ORANGE BLOSSOMS. (1908, December 29). Retrieved May 10, 2014, from http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article125992377 *One online explanation of this term (which still does not make much sense) is: the process of washing oneself, dressing, and attending to one's appearance. "her toilet completed, she finally went back downstairs" synonyms: washing, bathing, showering; wash, bath, shower;grooming, dressing, make-up;ablutions;toilette; lavation, lustration "she had always taken a long time over her toilet" | Family: Ernest Shepherdson DAY / Emma ROBERTS (F783)

17221 | ORANGE BLOSSOMS. NUNN-SCARBOROUGH. A very pretty and interesting wedding (some missing word/s), (writes our Dinmore correspondent), The ceremony was performed in the afternoon at 3.30 o'clock (in the presence of quite an interested assemblage of invited guests), the Rev. J. Adamson, of Ipswich, being the celebrant. The bride was tastefully attired in a handsome costume of pearl lustre, with pearl trimmings, and the usual wreath of orange blossoms. She was attended by the Misses Edith, Jessie, and Ida Wilson, and Miss Lily Scarborough (all nieces of the bride). The three first-named wore costume of hail-stone muselin lined with blue, and Miss L. Scarborough appeared in a dress of pale blue cashmere. Mr. C. Scarborough, of Brisbane, (brother of the bride), gave the bride away. The bridegroom was attended by Messrs. A., C., and R. Wilson. After the ceremony, the wedding breakfast was served in the large kitchen of Mr. Wilson's residence, where about 70 guests sat down to well-filled tables, and full justice was done to the capital fare provided. A goodly number of guests arrived later on in the evening, and a very enjoyable time was spent by all assembled, games, dancing and singing, being thoroughly enjoyed until the small hours of the morning. The presents were numerous, and, in the majority of instances, they were costly and also useful. ORANGE BLOSSOMS. (1900, August 23).
